The Bremerton Tennis and Athletic Club (BTAC) on John Carlson Road has announced that  it intends to expand its tennis, swimming and fitness programs, and athletic training services for increased availability to the public.  As part of the re-organization into its new role, the club has been renamed the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center.

Established in 1970, the club was originally organized as a non-profit recreation and social club 501(c)(7), with limited participation by the general public – similar to a golf and country club.

However, to continue to be competitive and meet the needs of the local communities throughout Kitsap County,  the forty-three-year-old tennis, swim, and athletic club is currently in the process of revising its mission and its policies along with applying for a change in its existing non-profit status, in accordance with the stipulations of United States Internal Revenue Code 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(3).

The Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center’s mission will be:
To provide for the health and wellness of youth, individuals, families, and community by providing recreation, education, physical fitness, and character development through racquet sports, aquatics, and fitness, with a focus on youth, and to cooperate with the United States Tennis Association and other nonprofit organizations on an educational and charitable basis in the pursuit of this purpose.

The application for a change in non-profit status to the IRS will be made about June 15.
The Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center will then have an enhanced focus on educational and charitable activities in the County as well as the fostering of national amateur sports competitions by Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula residents. 

Upon IRS approval, use of the club’s facilities by the public will become available to the public on an hourly and daily basis, subject to a fee-for-service and facility availability, in addition to regular monthly memberships.  The Center will be able to provide and grow youth lesson and training scholarships.

Currently, regular monthly memberships and monthly “get-acquainted” trial and summer memberships are available, along with a variety of summer camps and lesson opportunities.  Open seven days a week, the Kitsap Tennis and Athletic Center will have a 75% off joining fee special during the month of June.

Bremerton Tennis & Athletic Club’s High School Tennis Prep camp will be providing young players the opportunity to improve their tennis game, compete in our “Train Like A Pro Challenge”, make new friends and have lots of fun! All levels of players, girls and boys are welcome!

Our camp will be directed by our tennis professionals, along with our certified personal trainers. School teams will be assigned a Personal Trainer to help everyone get fit to play their best at the start of the season. Both our Tennis Pros & Personal Trainers have a passion for teaching and a gift for helping athletes reach their goals. Introducing the program through select program sites in the Pacific Nortwest, the USTA created TAZ to be “a quality, affordable program and the smart choice for kids, parents and schools. TAZ promotes important life skills and healthy lifestyles.” TAZ will be taught in local gyms and multi-purpose rooms using the USTA 10 & Under format, which includes age appropriate racquets, balls, and court size. The after school program will provide kids with a fun and engaging opportunity to learn the sport of tennis, and stay active.
TAZ is designed for kids grades 3-5, and costs $40/player for the session.

BTAC’s After School Tennis Club will be held on Mondays & Wednesdays for grades 3-6, and Tuesdays for grades K-2, both from 3:30-4:45pm. The cost per player is $36 for each session, with Session 1 for grades 3-6 running Oct. 1-31, and Session 2 going from Nov. 5-Dec. 17. Session 1 for grades K-2 will be held Oct. 2-Dec. 4. Minimum of 12 players, and maximum of 20 per session.
